I began the semester reluctant to expose myself to the "signs" with American culture. The readings from the text only slightly prepared me for the excessive consumerism I would witness while visiting my local shopping centers. I found the most abundant sign within American society was connected to consumerism. With each observation outing, the signs of American consumerism became exceedingly overwhelming. I can no longer be a mindless drone lurking through the plazas of the latest shopping destination. Each step taken increased my awareness to the signs bombarding me, from the individuals walking alongside me to the storefront advertisements. Each t-shirt now had to have some sort of hidden message that I must decode. Could the individual be trying to flaunt a status symbol or do their material goods have a more profound meaning? I often found it useful to have a few quotations or ideas in mind before performing my observation duties. This approach allowed me to observe with a specific goal in mind. Frequently, I uncovered more meaningful details while observing after preparation. With my newly acquired striking details, I believe I was able to concoct some posts that make my audience overwhelmed with writer's bliss.
To begin my revision process, I read each of my posts consecutively. Upon completion it was evident my weakest posts came in the beginning of the semester. My first post lacked a title, sentence variety, and was loaded with expletive constructions. While I progressed I noticed a reduction in expletive constructions accompanied by superb striking details. The inclusion of quality striking details became vital for an intriguing post. Before rewriting, some of my posts seemed shaky and uninformative. With the reworking of my details and the enhanced application and integration of my quotations, my posts became enhanced and have the ability to attract attention and incite creative thought. With the revisiting of each post I also became aware of my lack of connection to outside links and multimedia resources. Each post was enhanced with the inclusion of an initial picture and links as a part of my striking details. I found an initial picture could stimulate thoughts related to the image. The links became extremely vital for connections with the striking details. When I am able to communicate a thought and accompany it with a link, to an image or outside source, it becomes a much more effective source for information.
Although I feel all of my posts are of high quality, I believe my final post entitled "La Costa Royalty" was crafted with with supreme skill. The first edition included striking details; however, the details were not clearly explained. With the newest edition, the striking details are explained thoroughly and the scenario is described to enhance the effect of the details. I believe this post is also outstanding in its connections to the readings. Although may of my posts explored American consumerism, only my final post explored the human behavior behind the American consumerist behavior. While reading my final post, the content is revealed as exquisite almost instantly.
